The Sister City Friendship Path in La Cañada Flintridge is a 1,600-foot-long trail that provides an alternative, less steep route to access the Descanso Trail and Cherry Canyon. It was created to bypass the initial steep switchbacks of the Descanso Trail, which had a 15% slope, offering a more manageable 8% slope. The path is named in honor of La Cañada Flintridge’s sister city, Villanueva de la Cañada, Spain, and was funded by the Regional Park and Open Space District. The trail starts next to Descanso Gardens and connects to the Descanso Trail closer to the top, making it easier for hikers and equestrians to access the Cherry Canyon Trails.
